Zacheta Gallery
Accompanied by family and visiting friends, Ambassador Feinstein
visited the Zacheta Gallery and the Poster Museum in Wilanow during the week of July 19.
At the Zacheta
Gallery, the Ambassador was guided by Dr. Agnieszka Morawinska,
Director of the Gallery, through the Summer in the City exhibition, as well as two additional exhibitions currently on
display: Jan Lebenstein. Seal of Eros and Thanatos. Paris, 60's. and Rajmund Ziemski. Landscape 1953-2005. Summer in the City invites (not only) kids to see works of modern art - paintings,
sculptures, videos - devoted to the city and summer holidays.
Ambassador Feinstein commended Director Morawinska on the
innovative exhibit, saying, "I can't think of a better way
to introduce children to serious art in such an approachable,
interesting way. Our visit to Zacheta has given the Feinstein
family not only a nice introduction to Warsaw in the summer, but
also an artistic adventure - indeed, not only for kids."
At the Poster Museum, Ambassador Feinstein toured the 22nd International Poster Biennale exhibition which opened in June and will be on show until the end of August. The International Poster Biennale has been organized by the Museum since 1994. About 2,000 works each year are presented and evaluated by an international jury. After touring the museum, Ambassador Feinstein noted that "the Poster Museum is a vivid reminder of the power of graphic art as a vehicle of social commentary. The Museum's incredible collection of posters dating to communist times, combined with contemporary poster art from around the world shows Poland's unique contribution to making posters a form of art."
Established in 1968, the Poster Museum is a branch of the National Museum in Warsaw and the first in the world to collect posters. Its collection currently consists of more than 54,000 posters by Polish and international artists, including Henryk Tomaszewski, Andy Warhol, Ikko Tanaka, Jan Lenica, Kazumasa Nagai, Roman Cieślewicz, Yusaku Kamekura, Andre Francois, Waldemar Świerzy, Holger Matthies, Jan Młodożeniec, Uwe Loesch, Rosemarie Tissi, Milton Glaser, Paul Davis, and others.
At the Zacheta Gallery, the works of such well known Polish artists as Jerzy Nowosielski, Maurycy Gomulicki, Tomasz Ciecierski along with those of less frequently presented artists, including Józef Drążkiewicz, Andrzej Kandziora, Halina Strzyż-Garbolińska from the gallery's collection are presented by transforming the gallery's exhibition rooms into "educational playgrounds", where kids can play games inspired by works of art. TheSummer in the City exhibition features numerous "trails" one can take to see the artworks, such as going on a journey with the Zacheta Travel Agency or seeing A city under construction or maybe solving the Mysterious disappearance or choosing to play Playground games. The exhibit willbe on display through August 22.
