Ambassador Feinstein visited Gdansk and Gdynia on August 30 and 31 to participate in events marking the 30th anniversary of the Solidarity movement.  Throughout the two-day visit, he participated in several public programs and met with political and cultural leaders.

In his remarks at Solidarity's 30th anniversary gala in Gdynia, Ambassador Feinstein said, "Thirty years ago, the courageous protests of a few brave shipyard workers galvanized a country, and shook the foundations of a divided world."  The Ambassador joined President Bronisław Komorowski, Prime Minister Donald Tusk, European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek, former Prime Minister Jaroslaw Kaczyński and Solidarity Chairman Janusz Sniadek in congratulating the Polish people.  Ambassador Feinstein read a letter from U.S. President Barack Obama which said, "As we commemorate the 30th anniversary of the Solidarity movement we are reminded of the vision, sacrifice, and struggle of those courageous men and women who risked everything to stand up to oppression ... The Solidarity Movement is a source of inspiration in the fight for liberty for all the world's citizens."

Ambassador Feinstein attended the Mass of Thanksgiving at the Three Crosses Monument, celebrated by Primate of Poland, Archbishop Jozef Kowalczyk and the "Solidarity: Your Angel's Name is Freedom" concert and celebration at the Gdansk shipyard.  While in Gdansk, Ambassador Feinstein met with Former President Lech Wałęsa and also with European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek to discuss issues of mutual interest as outlined in Vice President Joe Biden's May 2010 address to the European Parliament.  He met with the Marshall of Local Assembly Mieczyslaw Struk and Governor of Pomorskie Province Roman Zaborowski. Ambassador Feinstein visited the National Museum of Gdansk, where he met with Museum Director Wojciech Bonislawski, Museum curators, and representatives of Gdansk City Hall. Ambassador Feinstein previewed the photo exhibit of female artists by American artist Barbara Yoshida.
