John Cage Year in Lublin
24 January 2012
The 100th anniversary of the birth of American artist John Cage will be celebrated in Lublin throughout 2012 with a series of events organized by the ”Crossroads” Center for Intercultural Creative Initiatives (Ośrodek Międzykulturowych Inicjatyw Twórczych “Rozdroża”) and the American Studies Department at Maria Curie-Skłodowska University (MCSU) in Lublin. The John Cage Year in Lublin will present the achievements of John Cage, focusing on the lasting impact that his innovative compositional techniques and inventions had on contemporary art and aesthetic thought. Some artists will perform new interpretations of Cage’s musical compositions, while others will perform works inspired by Cage, including musical compositions and artistic texts written specifically for presentation in Lublin.
One of the primary events of the celebration, a symposium from May 16-18, will gather composers, performers, curators, academics, and writers from around the world who will present papers on a variety of issues related to the study of John Cage’s legacy in contemporary art and culture.
Ambassador Feinstein is the honorary patron of John Cage Year in Lublin.
