Deputy Assistant Secretary of Commerce for Europe and Eurasia Juan Verde visited Warsaw March 30 to April 1 to lead the U.S. government delegation to the U.S.-Poland Economic and Commercial Dialogue.  Deputy Minister of Economy Marcin Korolec led the Polish Government’s participation in the dialogue.  Among the issues discussed were energy cooperation, safeguarding intellectual property rights, pharmaceutical company access to the Polish market, and U.S. – EU cooperation on trade matters during the Polish Presidency of the EU.  The Economic and Commercial Dialogue included more than 20 specialists from the U.S. and Polish Governments.

The formalized government-to-government dialogue was established in 2002 by the Presidents of Poland and the United States.  Its purpose is to address market access issues that have impeded bilateral economic and commercial activity and to further U.S. – Polish business cooperation, including investment.

While in Warsaw, DAS Verde also met with Deputy Minister of Economy Hanna Trojanowska to discuss nuclear energy issues and with Deputy Minister of Health Adam Fronczak to review pharmaceutical matters.  The senior Commerce Department official also conducted several joint events with a visiting business delegation from the U.S.-Poland Business Council.
