Law Students Discuss Foreign Service and Legal Issues with U.S. Diplomats

Deputy Cultural Attache Frankie Sturm greeting the students to the Embassy American Information Resource Center

On November 7th, the American Information Resource Center (AIRC) hosted a group of twenty-five law students and members of the European Law Student Association (ELSA) for a Meet America program.  During the program, they discussed how to join the U.S. Foreign Service with Public Affairs Officer (PAO) Lisa Helling and compared American and European law with Vice-Consul Elizabeth Shackelford.  Lisa discussed the nature of U.S. bilateral and multilateral diplomacy that the U.S. exercises while also explaining the challenges and benefits of serving as a diplomat.  Using her previous career as a lawyer, Elizabeth explained differences and similarities between U.S. and European law referring to certain legal cases she worked on in the past.

Meet America program provides Polish audiences with an opportunity to talk with U.S. diplomats about issues of bilateral interest, very often by referring to the diplomats’ previous educational and professional backgrounds.
