U.S. and Poland Sign Status of Forces Agreement “Deepening” Bilateral Cooperation
11 December 2009
Under Secretary Tauscher and Deputy Minister Komorowski make remarks to the media
Under Secretary of State for Arms Control and International Security Ellen Tauscher and Deputy Defense Minister Stanislaw Komorowski signed December 11 a supplemental Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA). The signing ceremony was attended by Poland’s Foreign Minister Radek Sikorski, Defense Minister Bogdan Klich, and U.S. Ambassador to Poland Lee Feinstein.
In her remarks following the signing, Under Secretary Tauscher said that the agreement “enhances the security of the Republic of Poland and the United States and promotes stability in the region.”. Ambassador Feinstein said, “This agreement strengthens the already deep relations between two close allies.”
The agreement supplements the multilateral NATO Status of Forces Agreement. Like similar U.S. agreements with other Allies, the SOFA serves as a foundation to strengthen cooperation between our two countries.
