Ambassador Ashe Hosts Lunch in Honor of Archbishop Nycz
Ambassador Ashe hosted the Archbishop of Warsaw, Kazimierz Nycz, along with Father Wieslaw Dawidowski, to lunch at his residence on August 12.  The Ambassador and the Archbishop discussed the legacy of the late Pope John Paul II, the important role played by the Church in the collapse of communism in Europe, Poland’s post-communist transformation, and the current state of U.S.-Polish relations.  The Ambassador expressed confidence that the strong partnership between the United States and Poland would continue to flourish even as President Obama and Secretary Clinton work to improve relations with Russia.  “Based on the long-standing historical ties between our two countries and our shared commitment to promote democracy and human rights around the world, I am certain that the alliance between Poland and the United States will thrive in the 21st century,” the Ambassador said.  He also expressed admiration for Poles’ deep faith.  Archbishop Nycz noted that the prevalence of faith-based community service and volunteer activities in the United States served as an example for Poland of how to use one’s faith to help others in need.
