Ambassador Ashe with His Eminence Cardinal Theodore Edgar McCarrick
The Ambassador met with senior American participants of an interfaith congress in Krakow on the evening of September 7. These attendees were among 500 religious and political leaders, in addition to over 3,000 participants, attending the September 6-8 "Spirit of Assisi" conference, co-hosted by the Archdiocese of Krakow and  the Community of St. Egidio.  The annual conference was invited to Poland by Cardinal Dziwisz to coincide with the 70th anniversary of the outbreak of World War II, and the 20th anniversary of the fall of communism. Those meeting with the Ambassador were: Joshua Dubois, Executive Director, White House Office of Faith-Based and Neighborhood Partnerships, His Eminence Theodore Edgar McCarrick, Cardinal Archbishop Emeritus of Washington, DC, Dr. John DeGioia, President of Georgetown University, Dr. Katherine Marshall, Senior Advisor of the World Bank, Dr. Hillel Levine, Professor of Sociology and Religion at Boston University, and Ms. Julieta Vals Noyes, Chargé d'affaires, U.S. Embassy to the Holy See.
