Ambassador Ashe Welcomes New Consul General, Allen Greenberg

Allen Greenberg arrives in Krakow on August 27, 2009 to assume his duties as the Consul General. Prior to Krakow, Mr. Greenberg was Deputy Principal Officer in St. Petersburg from June, 2006 to May, 2009. Before St. Petersburg, Mr. Greenberg was the head of the Political Unit at the State Department's Office of Russian Affairs from 2003-2005. Allen served in the Economic Section of the U.S. Embassy in Moscow from 1995-97, where he concentrated on transportation issues and intellectual property rights. Then he moved to U.S.-Japan trade and economic issues, first at the State Department's Japan Desk, 1997-99, then in the Economic Section of the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo, 2000-2003.Earlier tours with the Foreign Service have included the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw (1987-89), Consulate General in Casablanca (1989-91), and the U.S. Interests Section in Havana (1991-94).
A native of California, Allen was born 17 May 1957 and studied at Stanford University and Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies. He is married to Haruko Ando Greenberg, a writer and potter. They have one son, Benjamin, who is studying architecture in Indiana.
