Legion of Merit for Lieutenant General Andrzej Blasik
On September 22, 2009, General Norton Schwartz, Air Force Chief of Staff, presented Lieutenant General Andrzej Blasik with a Legion of Merit for his outstanding accomplishments as the leader of the Polish Air Force, announced Mary Peterson, Air Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw. This is the first United States decoration created specifically to award citizens of other nations. The decoration was established in 1940 by an Act of Congress. The medal was presented during the arrival ceremony at the U.S. Air Force Memorial in Arlington, Virginia.  The arrival ceremony marked the official opening of a week-long trip that included visits to Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, Hill Air Force Base in Utah, and Hurlburt Air Force Base in Florida.
