U.S. Embassy Participates in a Softball Tournament in Kutno

On Saturday, September 5, 2009, the U.S. Embassy competed in a friendly softball tournament in Kutno as part of the city’s 25th Annual Festival of Roses. The festival was organized by the City of Kutno.  The U.S. Embassy team, comprised of employees and family members, played against teams from the Japanese Embassy as well as two other expat teams of U.S. and Japanese players.  Although lacking in practice, the U.S. Embassy team played well against the opposing teams, losing by just a small margin in the two games played against the Japanese expat and the Japanese Embassy teams. The event was very well-organized, and all participants and family members enjoyed great Polish food provided by the hosts.  It was an excellent opportunity to build camaraderie and promote softball, a typically American sports discipline in Poland, where it remains a niche category.
