U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe met with the Young Traveler’s Club, a group of students at Middle-school No. 116 in the Wilanow District of Warsaw on April 30. The Young Traveler’s Club is a student association initially formed by an English teacher, gathering together young enthusiasts of culture, politics, economy and history from different countries in the world.  The students develop their interests in the world through a variety of cultural and educational projects in school or from traveling to the countries of their interest and learning about the culture, history and society of the place through first-hand experience.  Ambassador Ashe responded to an invitation to speak to the Club on the history and politics of the United States.

The Ambassador began by referring to the 200 year tradition of Polish-American diplomatic relations, mentioning General Kosciuszko’s and General Pulaski’s contributions to the U.S. War of Independence, U.S. support for Poland under the Nazi and Soviet occupation during World War II, and the current U.S.-Polish alliance in NATO and involvement in the Iraq and Afghanistan missions.  The Ambassador emphasized that U.S.-Polish relations remain strong, not only on the political level but also in culture, education and economic affairs.  He spoke to the students about his role as U.S. Ambassador to Poland and answered many questions about his impressions about living and working in Poland.

The Ambassador’s visit was an opportunity for the students to learn about various aspects of American history, culture and politics with the idea that it will further develop their interest in the United States and inspire them to explore the world.
