Mr. Tom Frankiewicz of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Landfill Methane Outreach Program visited Poland November 2-8, 2008 to facilitate a landfill gas energy workshop in Krakow and meet with the Ministry of Environment in Warsaw, announced Economic Counselor Michael Sessums.  The Krakow workshop was jointly hosted by the EPA’s Methane to Markets initiative, Poland's Oil and Gas Institute (INIG), and the International Solid Waste Association (ISWA).  It provided a Ukrainian delegation with training in landfill operations and maintenance, with follow-up opportunities for energy projects generated by landfill gas. Mr. Frankiewicz also came to Warsaw to brief the Ministry of Environment on a recent EPA Methane to Markets grant to INIG for assessing landfills in Poland and identifying landfill gas energy opportunities in the next year.
