Kukliński Documentary Premieres in USA at CIA

Gry Wojenne (War Games), the new Polish documentary on Ryszard Kukliński [in English, in Polish], the Polish Colonel and Cold War spy who passed top-secret Soviet documents to the CIA between 1971 and 1981, premiered on December 11th at the CIA headquarters in Langley, Virginia. It will open on January 23rd at movie theaters across Poland.  “This is something a film director can only dream about,” said Dariusz Jabłoński, the screenplay author who also directed the film in an interview for Rzeczpospolita newspaper.  His moving documentary successfully captures both Kukliński’s life as a spy and his family’s personal struggle with loneliness and alienation after escaping to the USA in 1981, just before martial law was imposed in Poland.  Kukliński and his wife, Hanna, suffered further tragedy when their two sons died under circumstances not fully explained within a few months of each other in 1994. Gry Wojenne was coproduced by Jablonski’s Apple Film Production and TVP (Polish Public Television).
