Lubelskie Students Meet America at Embassy

Swidnik students and Mary Curtin 

Thirty students of Middle-School No. 3 in Swidnik, Lubelskie Province, participated in the Embassy's "Meet America" program on March 18, 2008. Acting Deputy Chief of Mission Mary Curtin welcomed the group and spoke about current U.S.-Polish relations and U.S. involvement in the 1980s when Poland was struggling for democracy. Public Affairs Officer Edward Kulakowski discussed the development and current state of American democracy and its impacts on American society today. Deputy Cultural Attache Hilary Renner made a presentation on American culture and why it is unique in the world, giving examples in which American culture manifests itself in the at home and worldwide. Information Management Officer Joseph Costantino explained the U.S. elections system and provided the students with information on the current state of the U.S. presidential elections.
