U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe met with Mayor of Lubartow Jerzy Zwolinski at the U.S. Embassy on May 28 when Mayor Zwolinski was in Warsaw to visit the Young Learners Resource Center. He was accompanied by Lubartow School Director Slawomir Zdunek and English teacher Edyta Borowicz-Czuchryta. The city of Lubartow would like to develop a center similar to the Young Learners Resource Center that opened in Warsaw in November 2006. The Center provides teachers with an opportunity to improve their teaching methodologies and curricula for teaching English to young students. The collection includes teaching methodology books that can be borrowed or copied, as well as handouts with practical materials for classroom use, including lesson plans. The Center has a “processing corner” where teachers are able to use the die cut machine or laminator to allow them to prepare their own teaching materials for classroom use. The Center also enables teachers to work together, exchange ideas and establish a sense of community among English teachers of elementary schools. The U.S. Embassy and the City of Bialystock will be opening a new Young Learners Resource Center on June 2; the City of Szczecin and the Embassy have signed an agreement of cooperation and a new center should open in Szczecin the fall of 2008.
