The United States Air Force's Air War College (AWC) Central Europe Regional Study Group visited Poland from 4 to 9 March 2008. The purpose of regional studies program at AWC is to provide students opportunities to gain a greater appreciation of the politico-military and cultural aspects of nations with which the United States maintains diplomatic relationships. During their time in Poland, the group of 18 officers in the rank of Colonel or Lieutenant Colonel were briefed by U.S. Ambassador Victor Ashe and other embassy officers regarding current U.S.-Polish bilateral issues. The group also met with senior Polish Defense officials and visited cultural sites in Krakow and Warsaw. They began their visit in Budapest, Hungary, and conclude their tour in Berlin, Germany.
