On January 28, a delegation of Polish World War II Veterans from the Klub Kawalerów Orderu Wojennego Virtuti Militari, visited U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Victor Ashe, and presented him with the Officer’s Sword, the highest recognition a non-member can receive. Attending veterans expressed their gratitude to Ambassador Ashe for his interest and involvement in Polish Veterans’ affairs in the past five years and said they had never witnessed this level of cooperation between their organization and any other entity. Ambassador Ashe said that he would proudly display this symbol of Polish Honor, Courage, and Bravery, and tell the story of the Veterans, the Warsaw Uprising, and the gallantry of the Polish Nation for a long time to come. “Polish people, especially veterans of World War II, have a special place in my heart,” he said. “Poland has been my ‘home away from home’ for the past five years and I will cherish this time and memories for the rest of my life.” During the visit, the Veterans remembered past meetings and ceremonies, talked about the history of the Klub Kawalerów Orderu Wojennego Virtuti Militari and its members, and discussed Polish-American relations throughout the years.
