24 March 2009

U.S. President Barack Obama
U.S. President Barack Obama
U.S. President Barack Obama issued an op-ed on the urgent need for global economic cooperation on Monday, March 23.  The President’s address, urging U.S. partners to take action on remedying the global crisis situation, ran in more than thirty newspapers around the world.  “We are living through a time of global economic challenges that cannot be met by half measures or the isolated efforts of any nation,” he said.  “Now, the leaders of the Group of 20 have a responsibility to take bold, comprehensive and coordinated action that not only jump-starts recovery, but also launches a new era of economic engagement to prevent a crisis like this from ever happening again.”  The President added the United States “will act boldly to lift the American economy out of crisis” and is ready to take on the leading role, promote global recovery and build confidence around the world by giving a good example.
