U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe paid a visit to the Mayor of Ciechanów, Waldemar Wardziński, on Tuesday, August 28, when he began a multi-day trip around the Mazurian Lakes district of Poland.  The two visited the Castle of the Mazovian Dukes (pictured here) before Ambassador Ashe continued on to Maków Mazowiecki, where he met with Major Janusz Jankowski.  After the brief meeting, the Ambassador traveled to Szczytno, and met with Mayor Danuta Górska.  While in Szczytno, Ambassador Ashe was welcomed at the Police Academy by Kazimierz Szwajcowski, Rector of the Wyższa Szkoła Policji.  Then on to Olsztyn, where the Ambassador met with Anna Szyszka, new Voivod of Mazursko-Warmińskie Province.

Ambassador Ashe continued his visit to the Lakes district on Wednesday with an early stop in Lidzbark Warmiński and a meeting with Mayor Artur Wajs.  They spent a few minutes in discussion and walked up to the town's famous 14the century castle (pictured here).  The Ambassador traveled on to Bartoszyce and met with Mayor Krzysztof Nałęcz, then to Giżycko to meet with Mayor Jolanta Piotrowska.  Mayor Piotrowska took Ambassador Ashe to the Boyen Fortress and on a short boat trip, and they met with local press.  In the afternoon, the Ambassador visited with Piotr Jakubowski, Mayor of Mikołajki, and later with Leszek Marek Gryciuk, Mayor of Ruciane Nida.

Ambassador Ashe finished his tour of the Mazurian Lakes today after meetings with Andrzej Duda, Mayor of Kolno, Kazimierz Jan Dąbrowski, Mayor of Zambrów, and Jerzy Mikulski, Mayor of Wołomin.  The Ambassador commented on the trip, saying, "In addition to its unrivaled beauty and fascinating history, the lakes district is clearly moving into the future along with the rest of Poland.  It was very productive to meet with many accomplished mayors to discuss our countries' shared values and common interests."
