A Joint Prisoner of War Accounting Command (JPAC) team is visiting Poland from 13 to 28 October to conduct research into World War II aircraft crash sites that may contain the remains of missing American servicemen. The mission of the JPAC team is to achieve the fullest possible accounting of all Americans missing as a result of the nation’s conflicts. The team visiting Poland consists of six military officers who will search for witnesses and conduct interviews concerning American aircraft lost over Poland during World War II. The team will conduct site surveys of the crash site areas to investigate those locations that may contain the remains of Americans missing in action. Commenting on the team’s visit, COL Rick Runner of the Embassy’s Defense Attache Office remarked, “The team’s mission helps bring closure to families who lost loved ones in the service of their country, while recognizing the ultimate sacrifice paid by these American servicemen who died fighting to liberate Europe from tyranny in the Second World War.”
