The New York Philharmonic Orchestra visited Warsaw May 2-3. U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Victor Ashe, and Mrs. Ashe, hosted a reception at their Residence on May 2 in honor of Maestro Lorin Maazel and the orchestra. Prior to the reception, Ambassador and Mrs. Ashe facilitated a discussion among conducting students from Warsaw’s Chopin Music Academy and Maestro Maazel. The New York Philharmonic Orchestra, with special guest Emanuel Ax on piano, performed at the Warsaw Philharmonic on May 3 for a sold-out crowd. The audience’s enthusiasm prompted several spirited encores.
