With the assistance of the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw, the U.S. Department of State’s Family Liaison Office (FLO) is conducting two regional sessions of Professional Skills Development for CLO Coordinators in Warsaw, Poland, on September 24th to 28th for CLOs from Africa, and again on October 1st to 5th, 2007, for CLOs from Europe.  In total, 56 CLOs from five geographic bureaus will have participated.

An embassy's CLO (community liaison office) serves the embassy community in 8 areas of responsibility: education liaison, security liaison, family member employment, community liaison, guidance and referral, crisis management and security liaison, information and resource management, and events planning.  CLO training is designed to further develop the professional skills required to enhance performance, and to familiarize participants with the resources available within the Department.  In addition to discussing in depth the 8 areas of responsibility of the CLO, the objectives of the training are to identify and practice the professional skills required to effectively perform CLO duties, to understand the function of the FLO Office and the FLO/CLO relationship and and to train CLO as a professional member of the embassy team.
