The American Embassy invites teachers to apply for a week-long training program on how to teach about the Holocaust. The trainings will be organized in New Jork City in the following dates:

June 22-27, 2008 Training organized by the Jewish Foundation for the Righteous
August 18-22, 2008 Training prepared by the Museum of Jewish Heritage

The organizers are the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Association of Holocaust Organizations, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw. The Embassy and the organizers will cover participation costs.

The seminar creates an opportunity for teachers to familiarize themselves with Holocaust teaching methods and to exchange experiences with American teachers. It also provides an occasion to enhance knowledge about Judaism (history, culture, history of anti-Semitism, etc.) The program also includes a visit to the Washington-based U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum, where participants will meet with the staff of its educational department.

Junior high school and senior high school teachers in the 25-45 age groups, whose classes include Holocaust teaching, may participate. Employees of education departments of former concentration camps may also apply. Fluent English is required.

Please fill out the application form located at – LINK

The questionnaire includes a few questions and requires the submission of a few documents. Please prepare your application both in English and Polish, as well as enclose your CV in both languages. Try to contain your answers to 2-3 A4 pages. Letters of recommendation are welcome.  Please email your application to:  aep@state.gov

Based on the questionnaires received, the Embassy’s commission will select ten candidates within the next two weeks, and will invite them for individual interviews at the Embassy, which will result in 3-5 nominations (depending on the budget situation) to be decided by the American organizers.

Please pass this information to persons who might be interested in this training program. The deadline for submissions is February 1, 2008.

Questions may be directed to Assistant Cultural Attaché Hilary Fuller Renner at 022 504 2391 or Beata Milewska at 022 504 2391 (until 4:00 PM) at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw.

We invite you to participate.
