Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation closed on its acquisition of Polish aircraft maker PZL Mielec on March 16. Following the previously announced acquisition agreement signed in December 2006, Sikorsky acquired a 100 percent stake in the company, based in the city of Mielec, Poland. "This acquisition draws upon Poland's great aerospace heritage and expertise and unites two pioneering aerospace companies into an even stronger world-class aircraft manufacturer and service provider," said Jeffrey Pino, Sikorsky's president. U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Victor Ashe, noted: “This deal strengthens both our commercial and defense cooperation, extending Sikorsky’s reach into the dynamic Polish market and beyond, while providing high-quality jobs, advanced technology and management skills to Polish industry." The Sikorsky/Mielec production site will manufacture the International Black Hawk helicopter and will become a significant part of the U.S. firm's global supply chain.
