U.S. Officials Decry Attack on Polish Ambassador in Iraq

U.S. Ambassador to Iraq Ryan C. Crocker and U.S. General David H. Petraeus issued a joint statement on October 3 in regard to the attack on Coalition Diplomatic Personnel in Baghdad. The text of the statement follows:
"We strongly condemn the violent attack targeting Polish Ambassador Edward Pietrzyk’s convoy this morning in Baghdad. Poland has been a strong and steadfast ally here and around the world, and we commend its commitment to a stable and secure Iraq. We extend our support, best wishes and prayers to Ambassador Pietrzyk, his colleagues, and their families. We stand ready to provide any additional assistance we can."
U.S. Ambassador to Poland Victor Ashe extended his sincere condolences to Ambassador Pietrzyk and his wife at the losses and suffering sustained by the Ambassador and his colleagues, noting that the U.S. government has greatly admired Ambassador Pietrzyk's selfless engagement and commitment to promoting a democratic and independent Iraq.
