U.S. Transition Coordinator for Cuba, Caleb McCarry, visited Warsaw April 27. McCarry met with Polish government officials and media, and joined a representative of the Lech Walesa Institute in a roundtable discussion at the Center for International Relations on American and Polish efforts to support democracy and human rights in Cuba. McCarry emphasized, among other things, that Cubans will define their future and that it is important for the Castro regime to open a dialogue with its people. “The United States wants to offer help to the Cuban people with humanitarian assistance, food, and support for democracy,” said McCarry. He added that while the U.S. has differences with Europe on Cuba, we have a shared commitment to a democratic future for the country.
