Stories from Poland
Charles Frederick
I was one of the few who served in TWO groups here in Poland. I say here, because I still live and teach in Poland.
I began my service as a PC Trainee with Poland V in Warsaw. After a hot summer (the first words I remember learning were Lody & Piwo), I was sworn in as a PC Vol at the Ambassador's residence in August 1992. I spent 2 years teaching at the NKJO in Włocławek. Wonderful memories still fill my head and I am still in contact with a number of my former student who are now fellow teachers.
I returned to the US in 1994, but missed Poland and returned for training in Radom with the first group to integrate TEFL and Envroment Volunteers in 1996. Group XII was a fun and lively bunch! After training i came to nowy Targ (being from Colorado I missed the mountains) and served three years teaching at a local High School. Since 5 years is the limit one can serve as a Vol unteer, I left the Peace Corps in 1999, but stayed in Nowy Targ to be with my girlfriend. We got married in 2000 and the rest, as they say, is history.
I still live in Nowy Targ and teach at a "Gymnasium" in a village south of town. I hope you enjoy the pictures, I can send many more if you wish. I would love to be part of any 'Celebrations" that may be taking place here in Poland.
