Guests gathered for a barbeque at Ambassador Feinstein’s residence on July 18 to recognize the courageous work of activists and supporters of the LGBT movement in Poland in organizing EuroPride 2010, which took place in Warsaw from July 9-18.

In his remarks, Ambassador Feinstein noted that activists often face a challenging environment in advancing tolerance for diversity and social recognition for the human rights of LGBT individuals, and that corporations that promote equality and diversity in the work place may also initially encounter skepticism and opposition.  He noted that these are challenges that U.S. society has also faced.  He said, “The values promoted by EuroPride – liberty, equality and tolerance – are consistent with President Obama’s and Secretary Clinton’s statements that LGBT rights are human rights.”

Guests at the event included representatives of the organizers and corporate sponsors of EuroPride 2010, including the Campaign Against Homophobia, Fundacja Rownosci, Lambda Association Warsaw and the Project Poland Foundation, IBM, the Business Leader Forum, Intercontinental Hotel and the International Gay and Lesbian Travel Association.  Special guests Thomas Moulton and Brendan Fay, popular singer Kayah and Milk screenwriter Dustin Lance Black also attended.
