Secretary Clinton spoke at an event celebrating Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender Pride Month at the State Department on June 22.  In her remarks, Secretary Clinton said, “We will continue to advance a comprehensive human rights agenda that includes the elimination of violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity.”  She noted, “Men and women are harassed, beaten, subjected to sexual violence, even killed, because of who they are and whom they love … These dangers are not “gay” issues. This is a human rights issue.  So I hope that each and every one of us will recommit ourselves to building a future in which every person – every, single person can live in dignity, free from violence, free to be themselves, free to live up to their God-given potential wherever they live and whoever they are.”
