U.S. Ambassador to Poland Lee Feinstein announced the publication of biographical notes on Nobel Laureate Norman Borlaug in the Polish language.  Ambassador Feinstein said, “The United States is proud of the global contribution to food security that Dr. Borlaug made during his lifetime.  By sponsoring the green revolution, he helped to make food more available to one billion people globally.”   In Poland, crop scientists developed triticale varieties based on Dr. Borlaug’s research, which are now planted on more than 1 million hectares of land, benefitting Polish farmers and consumers.  Dr. Borlaug was fond of Poland and visited many times to collaborate on new crop developments and work with his friends at the Plant Breeding institute in Rodzikow. Dr. Borlaug’s life work was presented by the Plant Breeding Institute’s deputy director, Dr. Andrzej Aniol, at Warsaw’s Koszykowa library on January 18 from 11:00-13:30, sponsored by U.S. Embassy Warsaw and the Koszykowa Library.

Secretary of State Clinton has focused American priorities on working to promote global food security, and has noted that global food supplies must increase by an estimated 50 percent to meet expected demand in the next 20 years.
