U.S. NRC
Danielle Emche from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) visited Poland July 7-10 to meet with various officials and discuss U.S. – Polish cooperation on Poland’s civil nuclear program. She met with representatives from the Environmental Committee of the Sejm, the Polish Atomic Energy Agency (PAA), the Institute of Atomic Energy (IAE) and the Ministry of Economy. Her trip also included a tour of Poland's nuclear reactor, Maria, in Ĺwierk. As Poland readies itself for developing its own civil nuclear power program, Ms. Emche discussed potential for U.S. support in the training and human capacity building that is needed to properly develop and regulate a nuclear industry. The Nuclear Regulatory Commission is currently negotiating an arrangement with Poland to exchange information and share experiences and workshops to support safe and secure nuclear energy development. The NRC currently cooperates with 60 countries around the world who are seeking to develop their own nuclear power programs.
