The Honorable John G. Grimes, Assistant Secretary of Defense for Networks and Information Integration, and the Chief Information Officer of the of the Department of Defense, recently hosted a visit to Washington, DC, by Brigadier General Włodzimierz Nowak, Director, Department of Information and Telecommunications, Ministry of National Defense of the Republic of Poland, and his team of Information Technology Specialists. Besides participating in a day’s worth of discussions with Secretary Grimes and his staff, General Nowak visited the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA), where he was hosted by Lieutenant General Charles E. “Charlie” Croom, Jr., the Joint Task Force – Global Network Operations, and the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA). Secretary Grimes addressed topics ranging from Information Assurance and Computer Network Defense to Information Technology Management; while General Nowak discussed integrated Command and Control Information Systems. Visits to DISA and the JTF-GNO focused on Global Networks, warfighting capabilities and support to Special Missions. DSCA provided an overview of the Department of Defense’s progressive, security-assistance efforts that are ongoing with Poland in the Information Technology field. General Nowak was particularly appreciative to Ms. Patricia Gamble and Commander Jay Chesky, who lead the Directorate for International Coordination in Secretary Grimes’s Office. For the entire team, long days of hard work were rewarded by an evening of festive camaraderie, shared in one of the finest seafood establishments in “Old Town,” Alexandria, Virginia.
