F-16s arrive in Lask
8 October 2008
On behalf of the US Ambasador, Colonel Tim Burke and Mr Robert Orzylowski from the Office of Defense Cooperation with Colonel Walt Munyer from the Defense Attache Office attended the opening ceremonies of Lask Air Base, where the newest Polish F-16 squadron has been activated. During the arrival ceremony, three flights of F-16s flew past the crowd before landing. The brigade commander, Brigadier General Usarek, base commander Col Lesnikowski, and the new squadron commander, Lt Col Malinowski, hosted a splendid welcome party for the guests. While the runway at Krzesiny Air Base is undergoing maintenance, all the Polish "Hawks" will operate from Lask Air Base. When the runway is ready in a few months at Krzesiny, most aircraft will return but 16 F-16s will remain at Lask as the 32 Squadron. The pristine runway environment and state-of-the-art aircraft facilities make Lask Air Base a top-notch NATO facility and will greatly enhance Poland's ability to employ the F-16 and interoperate with fellow NATO forces.
