Ambassador Lays Wreath in Honor of Polish and American Soldiers in Ukraine

28 June 2005

On Friday June 24, Ambassador Ashe participated in the re-dedication of the "Cmentarz Orlat" or Eagle's Cemetery in Lviv, Ukraine with President Viktor Yushchenko of Ukraine and President Alexander Kwasniewski of Poland.

The cemetery contains the remains of 3,000 Polish soldiers and 3 American airmen that fought for Poland between 1919 and 1920.

Ambassador Ashe and U.S. Embassy Kiev's Army Attaché John Connell paid their respects to these soldiers and laid a wreath commemorating the sacrifices the airmen made.
