AMERICA PRESENTS Distinguished Professor Gail Levin, February 27 at the Center of Contemporary Art

Gail Levin, Distinguished Professor of art history, American studies and women studies at Baruch College and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, will visit Warsaw, Lodz and Krakow with a series of lectures on contemporary American art in February 2008. For the fall of 2007, Professor Levin held the Distinguished Fulbright-Dow Chair, Roosevelt Study Center, in Middelburg, The Netherlands. She is author of many books and essays, including a catalogue and a biography of Edward Hopper, which The Wall Street Journal named in 2007 as one of the five best artists' biographies ever.
Her most recent book is a biography of Judy Chicago, published in 2007. She is now writing a biography of Lee Krasner. Her many awards and fellowships include major grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities and a recent award from the National Association of Women Artists.
As a part of America Presents Program on Wednesday Feb. 27 at 18:00 Distinguished Professor Levin will appear at the Center for Contemporary Art, Ujazdowski Castle under the Embassy’s “America Presents” program. She will speak on the topic: “Becoming Judy Chicago:  An Artist's Response to American Culture."
