Embassy Events 2003
A Diplomatic Slam-Dunk for Ambassador Hill
12 February 2003Ambassador Christopher Hill has a new title to add before his name:
"All Star." The Ambassador was the only diplomat to play in the
all-star game February 12, sponsored by "Gazeta Wyborcza," one of
Poland's leading newspapers. His teammates included actors Andrzej
Nejman, Mateusz Damiecki and Marcin Dorocinski, as well as journalists
Maciej Dowbor (TVP), Wojciech Michalowicz (Polsat) and Marek Zochowski
("Przeglad Sportowy"). The players from "Gazeta Wyborcza" included
Piotr Pacewicz, Adam Romanski and Andrzej Stefanski.
Polish
and American basketball players who play for Polonia Warbud gave the
team a professional edge -- Walter Jeklin, Ed O'Bannon, Eric Taylor and
Krzysztof Sidor.
Although the Ambassador's team lost 57 to 62, he made several assists ... and never requested diplomatic immunity for fouls.
More on this story in the February 18 issue of "Gazeta Wyborcza."
