The White House May 28, 2004
I send greetings to those gathered for the dedication of the memorial to the victims of the Belzec death camp.
This memorial will help to ensure that the world will never forget the horrors of fascism and racism. This site is also a sobering reminder that every nation has a responsibility to confront and denounce anti-Semitism and the violence it breeds.
As Americans join with the people of Poland and others throughout the world to remember the courage and suffering of those who perished, we must never lose the courage to oppose hatred, aggression, and murderous ambition wherever we find them.
I applaud the hard work and dedication of the Polish Government's Council for the Protection of the Memory of Combat and Martyrdom of the Republic of Poland, the American Jewish Committee, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and all those involved in making this memorial a reality. Your efforts are a testament to enduring hope.
Laura joins me in sending our best wishes for a memorable observance. May God bless you, may God bless the souls of those who perished at Belzec, and may we always remember.
