The Polish Army showed off the latest addition to its arsenal on July 21, 2005, displaying some of its new U.S. Humvees (High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicles) during an event at the Polish Army 6th Brigade base in Bielsko-Biala in southern Poland.

It included a military display of equipment and tactics accompanied by speeches by the Polish Minister of National Defense Jerzy SzmajdziƄski and U.S. Air Force Major-General Edward LaFountaine, Director of Logistics and Security Assistance, Headquarters U.S. European Command, Stuttgart-Vaihingen, Germany.

In their comments both emphasized the extensive cooperation and ties between the Polish and U.S. armed forces and the General thanked Poland for its support for the U.S. in Iraq.

217 Humvees (HMMWVs) in various configurations were purchased by the Polish Army under the U.S. Foreign Military Sales program with a $22.9 million grant, as part of its commitment to the NATO Rapid Response Force and other quick reaction force missions. The Humvees will be part of the Polish 18th Airborne Battalion of the 6th Airborne Brigade, 2nd Army Corps.
