BLUE, a unique international and contemporary art group performs this fall, uniting Oregon with Europe through live outdoor public shows in Poland and Portland.
BLUE will bring five members of Portland’s 2004 Grammy-Award winning “Hand2Mouth Theatre”to live and work with the esteemed Polish “Stacja Szamocin” for two weeks in September to create a new, bi-lingual outdoor theater piece. The Embassy and the Trust for Mutual Understanding are helping BLUE finance this exchange.
BLUE uses street theater techniques like stilt-walking, fire, puppetry, mask and a capella song. Another technique provides striking poetic imagery that explores the cultural role of the individualist in legends of the American West and in the songs, traditions and folk tales of rural Poland.
BLUE premieres September 15 at “Stacja Szamocin” and travels through Poland for a full-scale six-city tour, including Gdansk, Lublin, Krakow, Poznan, Warsaw and Katowice.
BLUE performs in in Warsaw on September at 19:00 at Fabryka Trzciny, ul. Otwocka 14.
In October “Hand2Mouth Theater” will present two lectures at the Portland Institute for Contemporary Art, sharing video and artistic experiences with the public.
In spring 2005 “Hand2Mouth” will create a U.S. version of BLUE for touring colleges, festivals and parks in Oregon and the greater Portland area.
