The U.S. Embassy’s Office of Agricultural Affairs is pleased to announce the Norman E. Borlaug International Agricultural Science and Technology Fellows Program for 2007 for Poland. Under this program, selected Polish candidates will be offered short-term (four to six weeks) scientific training and collaborative research fellowships at participating U.S. land-grant universities, government research facilities, other nonprofit institutions or private companies in the United States.
The overall goal of the Norman E. Borlaug Program is to promote agricultural development, food security and economic growth by increasing scientific knowledge and collaborative research to improve agricultural productivity. The focus of the 2007 program is - research and issues related to the development of cellulose-based biomass for biofuels, often referred to as second-generation biofuels. The establishment of this year’s program is the result of close cooperation between the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
Persons interested in being considered for a 2007 Borlaug Fellowship should submit an application to the Office of Agricultural Affairs by March 2, 2007. The Borlaug Fellowship Program is named in honor of Dr. Norman E. Borlaug, a Nobel Peace Prize recipient who is often considered the father of the Green Revolution. Dr. Borlaug visited Poland in 1982 and again in 1989 with a team of experts to study Polish agriculture and provide recommendations to the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development.
