Ambassador Ashe hosted a reception on September 27th celebrating 15 years of the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) administered Cochran Fellowship Program (CFP) in Poland.

The CFP was first offered in Poland in 1989. Since then, 649 Polish government, academic, and private sector participants visited the United States for short-term U.S. agricultural and agribusiness training. This makes Poland the largest recipient of Cochran Fellowship Programs in Europe and the third largest overall.

The U.S. Government spent approximately $6.5 million on implementation of this program in Poland since 1989.

About 20 years ago, U.S. Senator Thad Cochran of Mississippi envisioned providing training and support to help developing nations improve their agricultural systems and strengthen and enhance trade links with the United States. Since its inception in 1984, the program has provided U.S.- based training for 10,285 international participants from 89 countries worldwide.

For further information on the Cochran Fellowship Program, please see the USDA Foreign Agricultural Service website.
