Phillip A. Min's Biography
Phillip Min joined the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw as the Consul General on August 2, 2007. He oversees U.S. consular operations in Poland, which include both non-immigrant and immigrant visa services and services for U.S. citizens at the Embassy in Warsaw and the Consulate General in Krakow, and services for U.S. citizens at the Consular Agency in Poznan.
Prior to his assignment in Warsaw, Mr. Min spent a year at the National War College in Washington, D.C., where he received a Master of Science degree in National Security Policy. He also served from 2003-2005 as the Management Analyst for the East Asia and Pacific (EAP) region in the Executive Director’s Office of the Bureau of Consular Affairs at the State Department in Washington, D.C. He was responsible for resources and personnel for all consular operations in more than 60 countries throughout EAP.
Mr. Min was the Chief of the Political Internal Unit at the Embassy in Seoul, Korea from 2000-2003. He was responsible for all reporting on domestic Korean politics, including the 2002 presidential elections. Prior to that assignment, he covered Environment, Science, and Technology (EST) issues in the Office of Japanese Affairs at the State Department in Washington, D.C. He served at the Embassy in Tokyo, Japan from 1994-1998 as the Deputy Chief of the American Citizens Services Unit in the Consular Section. Mr. Min’s other overseas assignments include two years in Bogota, Colombia (1991-1993) as a consular and political officer and two years in Karachi, Pakistan (1988-1990) as a Vice-Consul.
Prior to joining the State Department in November 1987, Mr. Min worked for a year as an English instructor at the Hyundai Management Institute in Seoul, Korea. He pursued graduate studies in East Asian studies at the University of Washington in Seattle and received a Bachelor of Arts degree in art history from Haverford College. Mr. Min speaks Polish, Korean, Japanese, and Spanish with varying degrees of fluency. He was born in Takoma Park, Maryland and spent twelve years as a child in the Philippines. He is married to Eun Young Lee, a classical pianist and professor of music.
