Consular ServicesSpecial Notice: If you come to the Embassy to accompany someone who is applying for a visa, and you plan to wait for them while they are inside the building, we ask that you plan to meet up with them at a pre-arranged area such as a café or park nearby rather than on the sidewalk in front of the Embassy. Currently the Embassy does not have a waiting area for those friends and family who have accompanied a visa applicant. Due to the very limited space on the public sidewalk and as a matter of public safety, we are obliged to ask that you not wait in front of the building. Embassy security personnel will ask you to leave if you are waiting on the sidewalk in front of the Embassy. What is a visa?
A visa is issued by a U.S. Embassy or Consulate. A visa entitles the holder to travel to the United States and apply for admission; it does not guarantee entry. An immigration inspector at the port of entry determines the visa holder's eligibility for admission into the United States. Please note:Travelers born in the United States and those who hold dual citizenship with the United States must enter and depart the United States on U.S. passports.
