The Warsaw premiere of “I Love O’Keeffe”
American playwright Lani Robertson will attend the Warsaw premiere of “I Love O’Keeffe” on November 27, 2005 at the Warsaw Bajka Theater based on his original play “Alfred Stiglitz Loves O’Keefe ” announced Patrick Lahey, Cultural Attaché. The Embassy co-funded this event which will star actress Malgorzata Zajaczkowska and actor Krzysztof Kolberger. The play is being produced in cooperation with many famous Polish artists including the following: musician Włodzimierz Nahorny, vocalist Danuta Rinn, artistic director Krzysztof Łoszewski, stage designer Marcin Sławiński, and producer Mariola Berg.(more)


Professor Stan Breckenridge

America Presents Stan Breckenridge
Counselor for Press and Cultural Affairs Ed Kulakowski invites you to a concert and a presentation by Professor Stan Breckenridge as part of the Embassy’s America Presents program. In honor of Black History Month, Breckenridge will discuss aspects of determining, defining, and mapping American identity via African-American music. He has an extensive experience as an academic and professional musician. Performing professionally as a singer and pianist abroad and domestically for many years, Stan Breckenridge has delighted audiences in Western and Eastern Europe, Japan, Hong Kong, and many cities throughout the U.S. This event will be held on Friday, January 13, starting at 3:30 p.m. in Karol Szymanowski’s Concert Hall of Warsaw’s Music Academy located at Okolnik 2.(more)


American Dance Groups Will Participate In The 9th International Dance Festival In Lublin
The Embassy is proud to support the American dance group, Soulworks - Andrea Woods and Dancers, to appear at the International Dance Theaters Festival in Lublin announced Cultural Attaché, Patrick Lahey. The festival runs from November 10-13, 2005. Soulworks will not only perform at the festival but will also conduct workshops with dancers, choreographers, and dance teachers from Poland, Belarus and Ukraine. Also performing and conducting workshops will be the American dance troupe, the Joe Alter Group, which has been cooperating with Polish and East European dance groups for many years.(more)

Gary Monroe Exhibit Opens In Warsaw
Cultural Attache Patrick Lahey announces the opening of “Jerusalem” an exhibit of works by American photographer Gary Monroe at the Klima Bochenska Gallery of the Fabryka Trzciny on Wednesday the eighth of November at 6 p.m. The exhibit is sponsored jointly by the Embassy and the gallery. This collection depicts the lives of the elderly Jewish community of Miami Beach in the 1980s, along with modern life in Jerusalem from the artist’s visit there in 2003. The exhibit will be at the Klima Bochenska Gallery until Nov. 30. The gallery is open from 11 to 18.(more)

The U.S. Embassy is proud to support an exhibit from November 18 to January 22 at the Zacheta Gallery by MIT Visual Arts Professor and internationally renowned Polish-American artist Krzysztof Wodiczko, best known for his large scale video projections on architectural facades, announced Cultural Attaché Patrick Lahey. Ambassador meets with Polish American Artist and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) Professor Krzysztof Wodiczko
On October 28th Ambassador Ashe met with Polish American Multimedia Artist and Professor of Architecture at MIT, Mr. Krzysztof Wodiczko. Mr. Wodiczko will have a retrospective at the Zacheta Gallery in Warsaw from Nov 18 - Jan 22. On November 14, Mr. Wodiczko will do a video projection upon the ZACHETA building. An Embassy Public Affairs grant to the Zacheta Gallery is supporting this event.(more)


Memorial Wurlitzer Organ Benefit
On November 10, the Embassy will host a concert at the Warsaw Museum of Science and Technology to celebrate the American Veterans Day Holiday which coincides with Poland’s Dzień Niepodległości, announced Cultural Affairs Attaché, Patrick Lahey. The event is another occasion to recognize Polish/American cooperation in the struggle for freedom and serves to support Warsaw’s American Wurlitzer Organ, the only instrument of its kind in Poland and one of the few in Central and Eastern Europe.(more)


Works by American Painter David Diao in Poland
Chinese born American painter David Diao’s work will visit Poland for the first time beginning October 14th. An exhibit of his work will be shown in Białystok at Galeria Arsenal from October 14-November 6 and then travel to Warsaw to be opened at Fabryka Trzciny on November 8.(more)

America Presents Dr. Mark Chaffin
Dr. Mark Chaffin will speak at our America Presents program on October 24 (Monday) at 3:00 p.m. at the American Embassy in Warsaw announced Press Attaché James Bond. The presentation is titled: “Developing better services for preventing child abuse and juvenile delinquency.” Dr. Chaffin is also the keynote speaker at the conference “Helping Child Victims of Crime” organized by the Ministry of Justice, the Social Policy Bureau of the City of Warsaw, and the Nobody’s Children Foundation.(more)

Mars Photo Exhibit Opened in Olsztyn
Embassy Press Attaché, James B. Bond, along with Jacek Szubiakowski, Director of the Olsztyn Planetarium opened “Mars: Mission Possible,” a photo exhibit, at the Olsztyn Planetarium on October 7, 2005. Over two hundred people attended the opening ceremony and reception at the Planetarium viewing the photos and using a computer to move a small rover over a miniaturized surface like the planet Mars. The exhibit will be on display until December 30, 2005 and will be open to the public Tuesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.(more)


Ambassador Victor Ashe visited the prestigious Art New Media Gallery in Warsaw
Ambassador Victor Ashe visited the prestigious Art New Media Gallery in Warsaw to promote the exhibit of Polish-American artist Hanna Zawa-Cywinska on October 5. The Ambassador, an honorary patron of the exhibit, met Andrzej Kozminski, the President of the Polish-American Freedom Foundation and co-patron of the exhibit, to view the exhibit, and sign catalogs for guests. During their visit to the museum, Ms. Zawa Cywinska explained that the American Dream made a deep impression on her work, since she “traveled to the US over 40 years ago with only 150 dollars in her pocket.” The exhibit entitled “Inscriptions” is an autobiographical look at the artist’s life through lines of poetry painted on stone slabs.(more)

As part of the America Presents programs, author Donna Leon will present on Tuesday, September 27 at 6:00 p.m. at the Traffic Club in Warsaw (Bracka 25, lecture hall III floor) announced Counselor for Press and Cultural Affairs Ed Kulakowski. Donna Leon will discuss her latest book “A Sea of Troubles” which was recently released in Polish by the Noir Sur Blanc Publishing House.(more)

The U.S. Embassy, the Arthur Szyk Society, and the Taube Foundation for Jewish Life & Culture, in cooperation with the Jewish Historical Institute, are pleased to announce the return of Arthur Szyk's works of art to Poland. The exhibit entitled: "Justice Illuminated: The Art of Arthur Szyk" will be on display in Warsaw, Lodz, and Krakow, from June 30-December 30, 2005.(more)


Holocaust Teaching Program
The Embassy in Warsaw is announcing a training program in the United States for five Polish educators who teach about the Holocaust. The week-long seminar will be conducted between June 4 – August 21, 2006, and is organized by the U.S. Holocaust Memorial Museum and the Association of Holocaust Organizations in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State. The exact dates of the training will be announced later. The Embassy in Warsaw will cover costs of participation in the program.

The seminar is an opportunity for educators to become familiarized with methods of teaching about the Holocaust, exchange experiences with educators in the United States. The course will also focus on Judaism - its history, culture, history of anti-Semitism. The program includes a visit to the Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, D.C., where participants will meet with the staff dedicated to remembrance and other related topics.

Eligible applicants should be teachers of junior or senior high schools who cover topics related to the Holocaust in their classes. Excellent English language skills are required.
