American Pianist David Northington to Perform in Warsaw’s Lazienki Park

 

American pianist Professor David Northington played a series of enthusiastically-received solo recitals of Chopin waltzes at the Miejski Dom Kultury in Katowice on May 17; at the Residence of U.S. Ambassador to Poland, Victor Ashe, in Warsaw on May 18; and at a heavily-attended open-air concert at the Chopin Monument in Warsaw’s Lazienki Park on May 20.  The American Embassy brought Dr. Northington to Poland for the second consecutive year after he played several concerts in May 2006. Dr. Northington is a Professor of Piano at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville.

Professor Northington’s program feature selected waltzes from the works of Fryderyk Chopin, as featured on his 2006 recording for Centaur Records. The American Embassy brought Dr. Northington to Poland for the second consecutive year after he played in May 2006 a series of enthusiastically-received concerts featuring Chopin and Aaron Copland in Warsaw’s Chopin Museum, in Pultusk, and in Katowice.  At his New York debut recital at Carnegie Recital Hall, the New York Times called David Northington “an immensely gifted musician…who combines the technical mastery of a virtuoso with the musical sensitivity of a poet.” David Northington’s masterful pianism has won him first prizes in the Concert Artists Guild Competition, the East/West Artists Competition, the American Music Scholarship Association’s International Competition, the unanimous Judges Prize at the Fourth Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, and selection to the Artistic Ambassador Program sponsored by the United States government. 

David Northington’s masterful pianism has won him first prizes in the Concert Artists Guild Competition, the East/West Artists Competition, the American Music Scholarship Association’s International Competition, the unanimous Judges Prize at the Fourth Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition, and selection to the Artistic Ambassador Program sponsored by the United States government. 2006 also saw the international release of Dr. Northington’s compact disc recording of the waltzes of Chopin on the Centaur Records label. Presently he is a Professor of Piano at the University of Tennessee School of Music in Knoxville. 

In addition to his performances in Warsaw May 20 and Katowice May 17, he will be meeting with music academies to initiate cooperation agreements with the University of Tennessee.
