The 12th Port Wrocław Literary Festival

The anthology O Krok od Nich includes Sommer’s Polish translations of the poems of John Asberry, John Berryman, John Cage, E.E. Cummings, Allen Ginsberg, August Kleinzahler, Kenneth Koch Robert Lowell, Frank O’Hara, and Charles Reznikoff and was published in part with the support of a grant from the American Embassy.

The Festival will feature an extraordinary series of black-and–white documentary and archival films obtained especially for the occasion by the Embassy from the American Poetry Archives collection of the San Francisco State University. Many of the poets in the anthology will be shown reading and discussing their art in these unique recordings. The Poetry Center’s tapes produced for the American Poetry Archives are raw documents: made live on-site with one microphone, one camera and minimal post-production. These are original recordings: no second takes, no splicing in or out, extremely few edits, which makes them interesting not only for poetry lovers.

August Kleinzahler will be a special guest of the Festival – his visit was made possible in part by financial support to the festival by the American Consulate General in Krakow.
