Alaksei Dzikavitski
Alaksei Dzikavitski, Editorial Director of Information Programming. Involved with the democratic movement since 1990, still under the USSR. He ran for the Belarussian parliament in 1995, was arrested for social-political activism in 1997, and in 2001 was one of the founders and editor-in-chief of the independent newspaper Provincjalka (The Provincial) in Pinsk, which became the city’s most popular newspaper in just two months. For some time he was a correspondent for Radio Free Europe.
At Belsat, he created the audio information bureau. In one year, the channel’s main information program, “Obiektyw” (“Objective”), changed from a 3-minute Flash-format broadcast to a 20-minute live broadcast, with guest presenters, sports, and weather. Today, “Objective” is the only daily TV broadcast in Belarussian and uncensored.
