A series of documentary films showing American ‘Jazz Icons’ in concert will accompany the Jam Session exhibition at Warsaw’s Hoover Square, announced Chuck Ashley, Cultural Attaché at the U.S. Embassy in Warsaw. The film series begins July 22 at 20:30 with two concerts by Ella Fitzgerald, from Belgium in 1957 and Sweden in 1963. These documentaries are available to the Polish audience courtesy of Reeling in the Years Productions. “I am honored that something we produced would be used to educate a society that couldn’t have seen it at the time because of the Iron Curtain,” said the company’s president, David A. Peck. “It is ironic that these performances were filmed in Europe at a time when these artists had very few rights in America and now – over 40 years later – they are being screened in Poland.” Please click here for more details on the exhibition.
“’It is strange how time changes things,” Peck added. “I feel it is so important that our musical heritage be seen by as many people as possible, especially in regions of the world they could not be seen in the first place. Most of these artists are no longer with us and this is the one of the most important ways to help them live on forever.”
