Cezar M. Ornatowski visited Warsaw and Pulawy October 16-25

Cezar M. Ornatowski, Professor of Rhetoric and Writing Studies at the San Diego State University, visited Warsaw and Pulawy October 16-25, 2009. His visit to Poland  included workshops and presentations for students of American Studies Center of Warsaw University, Lazarski School of Commerce and Law, Warsaw School of Social Sciences and Humanities and Collegium Civitas. Prof. Ornatowski was also  a keynote speaker at the annual conference of the Polish Association for American Studies in Puławy, which brings together American Studies specialists from all over Poland. This year the conference’s theme was: (Mis)reading America.  American dreams, fictions and illusions. Prof. Ornatowski will speak on issues related to such topics such as “The War of Ideas: Rhetoric, Extremism, and Security” and “Imagining Collective Identities: American, Europe, and Their Others” and “Totalitarian Propaganda.”

Cezar Ornatowski (Ph.D., University of California, San Diego, 1991) is Professor of Rhetoric and Writing Studies at San Diego State University. His research interests include rhetoric and political transformation (esp. in Central/Eastern Europe and South Africa); totalitarian and democratic rhetoric, extremist rhetoric; collective and national identity, and professional communication. He was Senior Fulbright Research Scholar at the Institute for Philosophy and Sociology of the Polish Academic of Sciences in 1999. He is also Honorary Fellow of the Center for Rhetoric Studies at the University of Cape Town, South Africa. His publications include an edited collection Foundations for Teaching Technical Communication: Theory, Practice, and Program Design (Ablex 1997), articles in Advances in the History of Rhetoric, Journal of Business and Technical Communication, Technical Communication Quarterly, Iowa Journal of Communication, Relazioni Internazionali, Journal for the Study of Religion, and others, as well as chapters in numerous anthologies. He also serves as a member of the Academic Senate, The California State University.
